EXPO-SCÈNE 2023 Wrap-Up
This year’s edition of EXPO-SCÈNE took place April 13 and 14 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and featured over 50 trade show exhibitors, educational TEC talks, demo rooms and networking opportunities to nearly 1600 attendees over the show’s two days.
As Canada’ s premiere entertainment technology show, EXPO-SCÈNE is one of the most highly anticipated events in the pro-audio, sound, lighting, audiovisual, and multimedia technologies and is the only show of its kind and calibre in all of Canada. The Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT/ICTS)’s annual show was postponed twice due to covid (in 2020 and 2021) before returning last year. This year’s edition of EXPO-SCÈNE took place April 13 and 14 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and featured over 50 trade show exhibitors, educational TEC talks, demo rooms and networking opportunities to nearly 1600 attendees over the show’s two days.
While CITT/ICTSNational Coordinator Monique Corbeil acknowledged that the show overlapped with the NAMM show and happened less than a week before the NAB show, she was pleased with both the attendance and the quality of the event
“This was a very special year because we’ve come out of covid,” she said. “Last year the show was a bit bigger but we wanted to do this show with the same quality that we’ve always done before but put a hold on expansion until the next year.”
Corbeil was also happy about the presence of students at the show. “For next year and beyond [we’re going to get] involved with other theatre production schools, not just from Quebec but even across Canada. It’s a unique opportunity for the students that are at least in Quebec to be able to see a show like this without having to go outside the country. For example, I know my days when I was studying theatre production, many many moons ago, I did not have that opportunity to see shows like that. But it's something that is important to have the schools involved, so this year we’ve we had four schools that were there. We want to see that expand in the future.”
“It’s really hard to say what's going to happen before the show because, for me, what makes this show amazing and worthwhile is the quality of the exhibitors in their booth and what they present and what they're doing in their space,” Corbeil added.
